Migratory birds return to north habitat after wintering in south

Every March, a large number of black-necked cranes set off from Dashanbao in southwest China's Yunnan Province and Caohai in southwest China's Guizhou Province and fly back to the Ruoergai Wetland Reserve in Sichuan where they build nests, lay eggs and hatch eggs there before flying back to the south when Ruoergai enters winter. Now the first batch of black-necked cranes have arrived in Ruoergai. Among the cranes, the reserve staff have also find one family they are familiar with.
"The family of the black-necked cranes arrived at Huahu Lake at around 14:00 on the afternoon of March 13. We found that the three cranes are the family we monitored last year. The little one was born last May. They flew from Yunnan Dashanbao and it took them three days," said Solang Torchi, head of the research office of the Sichuan Ruoergai Wetland Administrative Bureau.
Black-necked cranes are under China's first-class protection and the only cranes that live and breed on the plateau. It is estimated that there are more than 2,000 black-necked cranes in Ruoergai County. And up till now, half of the black-necked cranes have flown back to Ruoergai, and the remaining large number is expected to arrive within days.
