Farmers are embracing a bumper jasmine harvest in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
In Yuanjiang County of Yunnan Province, one of the four main jasmine-growing areas across the country, local farmers say the price has been on the rise for two weeks, and it even hit 42 yuan (about 6.4 U.S. dollars) per kilogram last weekend.
"The price was higher a few days ago, then it declined as the temperature dropped. Now the weather becomes warmer and the price is good," said Shi Yunping, a local jasmine farmer.
At one jasmine market in Yuanjiang County, local farmers are weighing and packing flowers and sell them to all parts of the country.
A flower buyer says flowers in the region come onto the market earlier than others, and the quality is better.
"Among the four largest jasmine-growing areas [across the country], the flowers from Yuanjiang are the first ones hitting the market, which is two months earlier than other areas. So the price is higher," said Zhao Xiping, a jasmine buyer.
Data shows that the region plants more than 240 hectares of jasmines, yielding over 431 million yuan (about 65.9 million U.S. dollars) in revenue.
