Fragrant blooms of mustard and jasmine flowers have transformed dull backgrounds into stunning landscapes in north and southwest China, with flower tourism helping local growers to generate profits while boosting eco-tourism in the region.

Yellow mustard flowers are blooming on a 666-hectare-field in Shuozhou City of north China’s Shanxi Province, boosting the incomes of local villagers as hoards of tourists flock to take part in flower tours.

The flowering period of yellow mustard is about 40 days and happens between July and September each year. Over 20,000 visitors visit the village each year, as local authorities have developed infrastructure and hospitality facilities for tourists.

"I thought the Loess Plateau is all yellow with sand, but here it's all green with tall trees and flowers," said Li, a visitor.

Jasmine flowers trading in Yuanjiang Hani, Yi and Dai Autonomous County of southwest China's Yunnan Province were affected by COVID-19 pandemic and weather conditions, but the market has recovered and has overall become steady.

Now is also the peak period of jasmine flowers trading in China. Local jasmine farmers are back to the field to pick flowers and the flower market is busy with buyers checking, weighting and trading fresh picked white jasmine flowers, which will be transferred to places across China.

"It's easy to sell flowers under good weather. The price of jasmine in July and August is 20 to 25 yuan (almost 3 U.S. dollars) per kilogram. It is not much but it is also not little," said Li Shengyang, a local jasmine flower farmer.

About 300 hectares jasmine flowers are grown in flatland of Yuanjiang Hani, Yi and Dai Autonomous County, worth about 180 million yuan (about 25.7 million U.S. dollars).
